Retraining course from home.

Hello,

I work in a great company and have been offered a brilliant job within the geology feild in the same company. I am due to go off for maternity leave in september for 6 months and then when i return, i will return to the new position. I move into the position before mat leave starts but will start at a very basic training level.

My problem is this is a feild i have no training in ( my employers know this ) i have a science back ground but nothing near the knowlage i will need to progress in this new role.

I would like to take some time over my mat leave to start retraining in geology but it would have to be from home or part time as i will have 2 small children and a OH who works full time.

My question is , who is the best distance learning company? i know of the OU but is this the best option? i would be looking at a BSC level course and may have to fund it mostly myself.

Any pointers would be great :) Thanks for reading all the waffle :rotfl:

    Hi Redcedar,

Do you already have a degree? If not you may be eligible for financial support from the OU.

Have you asked the colleagues in your new department if they have any thoughts?

Are you looking for a 6 month course or are you intending on doing a degree which will take roughly 6 years doing it part time? Do you want a broad understanding of geology or a course focused just what you will be working on? Is field work/practical work important?
