Bus Driver salary

Hi,

I was just wondering if anyone knows the current salary that a bus driver earns working in the Manchester area?

Also if any bus drivers on here can say if they enjoy their job or likewise if they really dont like it.

Thanks in advance.

Do you enjoy driving in city center rush hour traffic or the rush hour commute? Do you think you could cope with that with massively restricted visibility and everyone doing everything they can to make sure they're in front of you?

Do you think you could drive the same roads at the same time four times a day, 5 days a week for however long you manage to last?

Thanks, does your mate enjoy working on the buses? Im thinking of applying to be a bus driver and just wondering what peoples experiences are.
I wouldnt mind travelling in the rush hour and driving the same route day in day out as it cant be any more repetitive than my current job.

But in your current job, you've not got everyone you meet doing their best to make the job impossible.

my ex husband has been a bus driver in london for about 18 years. he says its the easiest job hes ever had!
i think the pay is crap when you consider that before privatisation bus drivers pay was on a par with train drivers. i think bus drivers have far more responsibility than train drivers.................how many times do trains need to avoid another train cutting them up?

My dad's worked on the buses for years (so much so he now runs his own depot) and he enjoyed it but there was a few bad points.

    1. Fireworks night - local nutters throw lit fireworks onto buses
    2. Bricks through windows - its fun to 'pan' in the windows
    3. He had a snowball thrown at him which contained a stone and broke his front teeth.
    4. Before they had 'hoppers' (for the cash) they used to get threatened at knife point for the takings.
    5. Idiot passengers who fall on the bus then blame the driver.
    6. My dad was forced down an embankment on a double decker bus due to a car drivers stupidity. The decker was on two wheels and narrowly missed toppling over. Some old wifey had a heart attack and tried to sue my dad. Needless to say it was the car driver who ended up getting sued but it was still a stressful time.

Mind you he still went back and even though he runs a depot he still drives a bus every so often! He was on about £19k I think.

if you want the hassle of

having to remove everything from the cab when you need the loo en route

people who stink of p*ss and the other people who complain to you to do something about it

    the incredibly unsociable hours

school run time on your bus- both on it and off it

there are enjoyable things about it, but my advice would be to ask some bus drivers where you live- they'll be the ones who can tell it you as it is
