Free computer programs

Don't know about you but over the years I've spent lots of money on programs for the computer. Now I find that there are lots of freebies (and not just AVG) out there.

Theres even a site which tests them, gives download links and even has guides for technophobes. Have a look at berthanet.co.uk

Wow! I've been using computers for decades and can only remember paying for a handful of programs. I've bought copies of Windows and MS Office, Acronis TrueImage (a backup program) and a couple of games... but that's about it, I think.

There are so many free alternatives to commercial software. A quick web search usually returns lots of options (use the search terms "freeware" or "open source"), or just ask here - I'm sure someone will be know of a free program for just about any application.
  • yes and the guides cost £5 for a written copy and although there is a free online pdf version, the link doesn't work.

just use www dot download dot com and arrange software by freeware (making the software free to use) all software is rated by the people that use them and its probably the most extensive site for software free or otherwise.

Thanks for the link could be helpful to some people not everything that is free is good though always do your research frist via google etc, there are some exellent free resoures but I think it all depends on what you are going to be doing with them, if you are only a light user then there is probably a good free resource for almost anything :)

Im a web and graphic designer and sadly spend thousands every year buying upgrades which are thie biggest rip off going, always be very wary of so called ipgrades and latest releases make sure you double check what has changed and if you will ever use the new features, a very expensive lesson to learn :)
