Regional development quangos in the south are to suffer budget cuts next week, Vince Cable, the business secretary, revealed on Thursday as he questioned their future while suggesting that “popular” agencies in the north were likely to stay.
Makes we think my vote wasn't wasted after all.
Keep it up agent Vince.

Problem will be, as a lone voice in the wilderness, how long will he be able to/allowed to remain.
I'm not sure that he's going to have a great working relationship with georgie. I think they will have some quite contrary views to georgie. They really could find themselves opposed to each other. I also wonder if Cable feels a little snubbed that georgie got the chancellors job ahead of him (based solely on being camerons mate)
Some of the libs in this condemed alliance appear to be getting to onside with the tories. They could start distancing themselves from Cable if this is so.
He should've been given the chancellors job. It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -

Forget the north south rubbish - but removal of unelected quangos will probably only be a good thing for value for money for the country0 -

I am convinced he will be the first one to jump (or be pushed) out of Government.
A pity he is 67. If he was 10 years younger, he could come home to Labour and be the Shadow Chancellor.US housing: it's not a bubble

As opposed to Dave & Nick creating another 170 unelected peers to add to the £300 million annual running costs of the House of Lords ?US housing: it's not a bubble

I happen to believe that the State can have a useful role in things like supporting the banks, regeneration of cities, and target support for some industries.
This should be conditional in getting private sector investment alongside any public money - which is what happens with RDA & European money.
Georgie boy believes in none of the above, which is why it is useful to have someone with a brain to counter-act his half baked schemes.
At least the (un-elected) governor of the BoE disagrees with him on banks bailouts.US housing: it's not a bubble

In theory I don't necessrily disagree with some of that first paragraph. It is measuring the results from the creation of such quangos that effectively make decisions that affect people's lives that I think is usually the issue
These organisations can very easily become part of the "gravy train" if not carefully monitored and reviewed (and held accountable)0 -

Cable is an intelligent man. Hopefully he will like many put their diferences aside. At least until the next election. Putting his mind into how best to turn this country around. We are outside the sphere of party politics and have to address some complex financial issues which aren't going to be resolved at the stroke of a pen.0 -
Georgie boy already seems to be well on his way to screwing up the country even more. Phillip Snowden MkII.
Sadly I think Vince is being stitched up good and proper.Politics is not the art of the possible. It consists of choosing between the disastrous and the unpalatable. J. K. Galbraith0
