Hello,
I have a question, simple, but ?.... and i just need clarification, seems silly, but i just want to honour contract and get out
I am on a 12 month contract
I started on august 17th 2009, will my last day be august 16th 2010, they are saying my last day is 17th
I think that means i will be working 12 months and 1 day?
Opinions please?

Surely it would still be 17th, as that's a full 12 months?0

For 12 months I would say last day 16th if started on 17th
reasoning : if you started on the 1st of a month you would not work the 1st of the following month if it was a month contract
Whats the notice period while in the contract?
Don't forget holidays are 5.6 weeks minimum.0 -

well this makes sense to me.
notice period is 4 weeks
holidays 5.6 weeks?? not sure i understand what you mean?0 -
Holidays : you need to make sure you take them or get them paid.
If you want to get out, can you not just give notice.0 -

Your initial letter/contract should say this - and it should be the 16th.
If you work the extra day, tell them you will need a new contract for the day.0 -

yes i do get holidays 24 days a year, i get the same as permanent staff.
I only have a couple more months of contract, i will see it through.

It does not state the day i finish.
its has the start date and that it is a 12 month contract.
I think its because they assume i will stay, all the most recent staff seemed to have started on 6 or 12 month contracts, they stayed and they were issued new permanent contracts.0 -

Presumably you don't want to stay with the current employer as you have already agreed alternative employment elsewhere.
What will the current employer do if you don't arrive for work with them on 17th August 2010? Sack you?
I suggest you inform your current employer (if you've not already done so)that you intend to make your last working day with them the 16th August 2010 so that they know the situation."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
When do they normaly put up the new contracts for renewal?
Is this the first/only contract or have you done a couple of years?
If you have worked 2years+ you would be entitled to redundacy if not renewed.
It would be polite to let them know you will not be renewing but I would wait till offered if there is any benifit by them not renewing.0
