Recruitment Consultancy

Something I've always fancied getting into.

Can anyone help me as to where I'd start off?

The recruitment consultancy are only interested in one thing and thats your ability to sell. If you have the people skills and can convince people you can sell then a job should be obtainable.

A degree might help but doubt it would be a killer

The one thing I would stress is you need to realise that they are interested in one thing and one thing only and that is sales. You will spend the majority of your time harassing management of companies with "exceptional candidates" many of whom you wouldnt trust to look after a goldfish.

Financially the money isnt brillant nor terrible and will be based completely on your sales.

If your interested in HR or recruitment as a career I would strongly suggest you avoid this field and look at becoming an HR professional.

Well I currently work in sales and felt the need to push myself further.

I've heard from others that this is a good profession to push your ability to sell, which is what you have just confirmed.

It definitly is that because the vast majority of managers dont want to speak to 10 recruitment agents a day trying to sell staff for jobs that dont exist.

I started in a well known agency years ago, as an administrator/secretary and got promoted to running the temps desk within a few months.

May be worth going in at the "bottom" and taking it from there.

I lasted a couple of years as I hated the sales side which is basically what it's all about.

Having also worked in HR, I know how irritating the agencies are and would frequently refuse to speak with them so you need to be tenacious too.

Would you say the HR side is better than the recruitment side then?
