Teaching as a career

    Hi there.
I had my interview for a PGCE yday. I have spoken to a lot of people regarding this, and they have all commented on the amount of hours they put in, especially in the first few years. Since I have a degree in Accounting, I think that if I have to work all hours of the day anyway, a career in accounts would technically be more financially rewarding. Will find out later this week how the interview went, but I'm still in two minds now if I would actually want it. Try speaking to people you know who can let you in on what it means. From what I can work out, teachers need those holidays to catch up on sleep, paperwork, life, etc!!! Doesn't sound too fun!
  • Every job can have its stressful moments. If you are hesitant over teaching because it might be stressful then it isn't the job for you. For any job you have to love it to be able to cope with the stresses and negative parts.
You sound like you need to go and visit a careers advisor, and evaluate what your skills are and what type of job you would suit and want.
The grass is not necessarily greener on the other side - if you unsatisfied with your current job why don't you talk to your employer and discuss what can be improved? Maybe they can put you on different projects or help you get further qualifications.
