Firstly check with your local authority, many of them have bursaries which apply only to those living in their area.

Then check with the university she is attending. Most universities have bursaries available.

You would be surprised how much funding is available through legacies. People bequeath bursaries and legacies in their wills and these can be quite specific, e.g. I got £500 a year from a bursary which was for anyone from the old county of Sutherland who studied Divinity. My flatmate got £700 a year because he qualified for a bursary that gave anyone from Inverary studying medicine at Glasgow a bursary. I know of a bursary which is for anyone from Stonehaven who studies drama at RADA, it went unclaimed for years and when a girl eventually applied the trustees were so pleased that she got hundreds just so the trustees could say they were complying with the terms of the trust.

There is no one place to find these listed and they are not on any centralised government list. Only the local authority or individual university will know about these and many go unclaimed.
