There's a new lock on the market that's very easy to use and only £14.95. I had trouble with neighbours filling up my bin until I got this little gem.

But almost totally useless.
When are neighbours likely to find out that their bin is full and need to use somebody else's to dump their excess rubbish? When they are putting their bin out for collection. This lock needs to be removed before the bin is put out, thus making it fairly pointless.0 -

You've got it wrong. Here's how it works:
I remove the lock before I go to work on collection day and take the last of my rubbish out. All of MY rubbish is in MY bin and there's no room for anyone else's - and if there was room at this point then no problem - I've got ALL my rubbish in.0 -

Doesnt solve the problem if they start weighing the rubbish though! Gravity locks are a much better idea.0 -

I'd be worried about my bins not being collected with a gravity lock because the council couldn't check the bin contained the correct rubbish like someone pointed out in a previous post.
Also, with all the muck around do gravity locks every get jammed?0 -
Does any one else suffer from having their bin stolen? i have had my bin stolen twice how do i stop it?0

I believe this is one of the reasons why some councils have started fitting RFID chips to household wheelie bins. Bins issued by a council would, I guess, be registered to a particular property and this could be checked with a reader. Depends also where all the stolen bins go - where do they go? Obviously the RFID chips would also be used if a pay-as-you-throw system were introduced.0 -
i got that bull dog bin lock but the next week some cretins just broke the handle of the bin and took it again. since then i got a wheelie bin bracket which is maybe a bit over the top cause its big and made of steel but it holds the bin, locks the lid and stops theft fire and illegal dumping.
you can google wheelie bin security products, thats how i founds it.
the site is something like wheeliebinbracket dot com.0
