So if I set up a standing order to the council of what I can manage for the meantime (hopefully will be more soon!) and write to them telling them I've done it will they accept it and take the debt back even though that girl said not this morning? What do we think??0

After great advice on here, I knew how to handle the bailiff so he got no where. I set the SO up at the first opportunity and paid every penny I could into paying off the arrears - some months this was as low as £9 and others £50. I didn't speak to or write to the council, just did it. Eventually the bailiff will get sick of calling round and getting no where but in the meantime your debt is reducing to the council so they left me alone too.So if I set up a standing order to the council of what I can manage for the meantime (hopefully will be more soon!) and write to them telling them I've done it will they accept it and take the debt back even though that girl said not this morning? No
You need to get hold of your local councillor and see if they can get the revenue collection serves to take it back.
Point out the illegal actions of the bailiff so far and mention maladministration and you may be lucky. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
Well if no-one wants to take responsibility, I would send a cheque once per month to the debt collectors, that way you have evidence of the repayments being attempted if it does go to court.Best Regards

Also, the council told me I had to deal with bailiff (I was having none of that after taking advice) and they also stated they would not take the debt back.... it was only 3 months before the bailiff passed it back as none collectable. Because I had been paying the council directly for 3 months, they never even got in touch other than a letter saying the debt had been passed back.0

There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies0 -
Yikes it would be embarrassing if I was wrong now wouldn't it?
