Is 3 days enough to decide whether you like a job??

I think any new job always feels not very nice - it's never nice being the new person, especially if you aren't made to feel welcome. As other posters have said, once the lady has left, it should feel better.
I remember standing in the filing room of my current job, counting how many days I would have to work till I could leave (it was a 6 week contract). Five years on, I cannot imagine working elsewhere, although I may have to but that's another story for another thread!
Try and stick with it for a while.0 -
I left a job after 4 days and I still feel I was there 2 days too long. I think you have to take it on a case by case basis, some jobs are just a nightmare and you can tell straight away it isn't going to work out, others take a while to settle into.
The job that I left only employed one member of staff and they and got through 15 people in a year!0 -
I don't like anyone who works there and we have nothing in common - they are all a lot older than me. The atmosphere isnt nice.
Do you think maybe the fact you don't like any of the other staff is showing in how you carry yourself or speak to them? This could account for the atmosphere.
I have to say - where I work now, I'm the youngest member of staff by 20 years and I love it there. Their personalities are completely different to those of my friends - yet every day I learn something new from them. Whether its a peice of trivia, who won pop idol (don't ask, one of them is obsessed, I dont own a tv), some peice of history about my company or a new case study.. maybe its me, I'm a learner, but I find them fascinating, especially as one is from another country.
What I'm trying to say is that if you look for it, you might find something you do like about them, really try, it can only make your life easier.0 -
Thanks for all your comments - I think the comments about it becoming easier once the lady goes on maternity are right. Whilst she is still here I am the newbie and have to do everything her way. I cant wait just to get on with things and do it my way!! I think I'm going to stick it out for a couple of weeks to see what it is like once she has gone.0

I took a job I didn't really want, just because of the money they were paying me. It was only for three months, so I toughed it out .... then, the unthinkable, b4st4rds wanted me to stay on and perform another role in the project cycle ... and I have trouble saying "no", so took it and kicked myself. Finally, six months on, having counted every hour/day/week of the contract, I was free. F R E E ... FREE!!!!! ..... I drove 200 miles home and luxuriated in my back garden... finally....
That was 9 years ago and to this day I've not found or had a better job, or one even close. I really, really, really wish they'd wanted me again since, but it was a one-off project.
I did two days' temping last week, hated it. As I was in the final hour, I overheard the boss discussing deadlines ... and heard her say "we can call ... back if we need to" and I thought "oh no you won't". I'll be "busy" if that phone rings for a booking back there again. Control freak city it was!0 -

3 days thats an eternity, I once left a job after 3 hours at a call centre, I went for lunch and never came back, a team leader tapping me on the shoulder and saying you can go to the loo now was the final straw.
Luckily it was in the days that It was a doddle to get a new job, at lunch time I rang an agency and within 2 hours was assigned a role starting the day after.0 -
I'd stick it out for now, as 3 days is no way near long enough to get to know people. It takes time to fit in!Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -

Haha, that is so funny. I have also done that!! I even rang the agency after to tell them I wasn't going back then asked when they would pay me for the 4 hours I did. I got a cheque a week later but no more work from them :rotfl:0 -
Don't be too hard on yourself by worrying about the standards she has already set. You are bound to do things differently yourself. Keep applying elsewhere and hopefully things will improve in the meantime.0
