Help venue let me down!

I would apprecaite any advice please! I booked a local venue back in December for the afternoon of July 11th. The manager was aware is was the date of the World Cup Final (not until the evening) but he said it was fine and took my deposit.
I had heard nothing from them so emailed 3 weeks ago, when this was not replied to I called I left messages with staff members which were never returned. Finally 2 weeks ago I spoke to the Manager - a new Manager. He was aware of my booking but said I could no longer have that date as their Head Office wanted them to open to the public all day. I asked when I was going to be told this, he said he would see what he could do and get back to me - he didn't! I called him last week - he offered me the following week but then could not guarentee it as they were due a refit which might be that week!!!
I have written to Head Office - and had no response.
Obviously I want my deposit - I have a receipt (which they class as a contract which does not state them deciding to open as a reason to cancel)
I am struggling to find an alternative venue - the one I have found will cost me much more!
Any suggestions - did try CAB but bless them - they really busy!
