                    Hello all,
I was wondering if anyone can help me with a problem my step-daughter has with Lloyds.
A direct debit appears to have been taken early which has resulted in her account going overdrawn (unorthorized) for 8 days. Unfortunately she is on JSA for the moment and this money will be wiped out by the charges that are going to be put on the account on 1st June. She has not had any bank charges before.
The charges are:
£15 - monthly charge
£15 x 8 - daily charge
Total = £135
I know very little about bank charges so was hoping someone could give me some advice on the best way to sort it out. Eg, open new bank account elsewhere?
Thanks

I will ring and ask her after dinner. She said it was two days early but I guess it could be that they usually take it on a certain date and she expected it to be the same. I'll tell her to look for the dd guarentee.Good Enough Club member number 20

            Hi millymoomoo
In my experience I have had a DD taken out on the Friday if it was due say on the Sat or Sunday. It maybe worth phoning Lloyds and explaining. I had the same with Abbey (Santander) and they refunded the charges as goodwill. Wasnt going to argue as I felt they were in the wrong but on the other hand all I wanted was my money back.

            Hi
I had the same problem with Lloyds a few years ago, they tried to take a £2.09 DD and there wasn't the money, so they charged me £30 for it bouncing, then £30 for an unauthorised overdraft that I had because of the charges etc etc. Ended up owing them £120 by the end of the month. Lloyds solution was to give me a temporary overdraft and to reduce it by £40 each month. I was on benefits too. All for £2.09! I appreciate that the rules regarding charges have changed a little in the last few years, but Lloyds standard policy was they would only charge a maximum of 3 times for each DD in any given month.
My advice is to argue and explain and hope that the person on the other end of the phone is really nice and to move banks before you get caught short again.turn £100 into £10000 in 2010 member #16 £567.68/£10,000 - I'm a wiggly worm, I'm a wiggly worm, how do you do, I love you, I'm wiggly worm!0 I'm a wiggly worm, I'm a wiggly worm, how do you do, I love you, I'm wiggly worm!0

            Thanks all,
She is coming over tomorrow so we can start trying to sort it.
 Crikey MummyandPaige that is shocking!
She's waiting to here back from a job interview so I'm going to keep my fingers firmly crossed that she gets it, in the meantime though will get her to open a bank account and get her benefits moved asap.
 Thanks again!
And please excuse my shocking spelling in the first post lol!Good Enough Club member number 20

I had a nightmare with them two.. It's always worth contacting them and explaining your predicament.. Sometimes they can be sympathetic, especially if it's the first time0

I had something similar happen when something I had charged on visa debit card "fell off" and it looked like I had more money in the account than I did and I spent it. I phoned the customer services number and explained the situation and that I couldn't put anything into the bank until I was paid which was going to result in charges of about £200. They were very good with me and looked back at my account and noted that I was not in the habit of going into unauthorised overdraft and agreed to give me a temporary overdraft until the day my wages were put in the bank and refunded all the unauthorised overdraft charges. The overdraft charges were very small compared with what it was going to be - she needs to phone and explain the circumstances - nothing ventured nothing gained is my motto in these situations0

            Sorry to hear that
I was wondering whether it is a bank specific procedure? I am with Natwest and if I have a DD that is due to be paid on a saturday or sunday the money NEVER debits my account until the working day AFTER it is due. For example, if my phone is due today the money will become 'unavilable' today but the actual debit wont be made until Monday, this has helped me lots of times when something is due to come out at the weekend and I get paid on the Monday!

I've a similar problem after being told by one of the 'helpful' call centre staff that all would be ok 4 weeks prior to the charges.
It was for £60 and I've raised a complaint with Lloyds and with the FOS.
