Bear in mind that November is the end of the hurricane "season" in Cuba & the Caribbean, and may be a bit wet & windy.

Can;t be worse than the isle of skye in Novemeber

You could go to the far east. Flights are less than £550pp at the moment with Emirates to Thailand, China, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong.

You could easily do hotels and food for 2 weeks for less than £1k if you DIY the trip.

FCO are advising no travel to Thailand - you may find it difficult to book even for November......and if you did manage to book, there is no guarantee that your hotel will still be standing.

Mind you, it wouldn't be as wet & windy as Skye!!

Another vote for Gran Canaria - their temperatures are around 26 degrees pretty much all year round and they get very little rain...they are also on the same time zone as us so you don't need to faff around changing your clocks or worry about jetlag.

Puerto Mogan is pretty and is known locally as Little Venice, Puerto Rico is quite hilly, Maspalomas is nice (lots of sand dunes nearby) and Playa del Ingles is also ok (its purpose built).

I went to Skye for a holiday in February last year. we also stayed in a gorgeous, fabulous cottage.

It was very quiet as you say, but our cottage was well equipped and we enjoyed catching up on loads of DVDs, spent lots of time in the bathroom etc ;):D and best of all, we spent lots of time looking out of the window watching the weather! Honestly, it is amazing even when it's bad, knowing you are all warm and toasty while merry hell is released outside!

We splashed out and had an amazing meal at the Three Chimneys. Not cheap but worth every single penny. We found a couple of nice places in Portree and also did a bit of self catering which we were happy with.

If you are after sheer escapism and jaw dropping scenery, I think you will love Skye. no, there's not much up there but that is the appeal for me! We found the people absolutely wonderful, possibly more so out of season even though they thought we were mad for coming when there wasn't much going on!

We are hoping to go again, we drove all the way from Colchester (650 miles each way!) but treated it as a road trip and really loved it.
