Starting your own business ideas?

Options
Hi,

I have always wanted to run my own business but never known what business I should start? Has anyone else ever just thought of an idea and it's really taken off?

Looking for inspiration!!

Thanks

It sounds obvious - but try and look for a gap in the market in your local area. For example, I run a computer support company, and at the time I started it, there were no independents in the market in my local area, so demand was booming. If others see you're busy enough, they'll inevitably come up with competition sooner or later but its the most profitable way to get a new business off the ground.

Also, I won't stress enough - without effective advertising (a lot of which can be done for free) you wont get anywhere! There are loads of tips flying about on this board, but the best way to start, depending on our business, is probably going out and speaking to people on your local high street. You may need to ask permission but most councils won't charge unless you're setting up a table or similar.

Hope that gives you a starting point :)

For me, its very important that your business is inclined into something you like or are very interested at. Primarily because you might easily get bored, you won't have the motivation or the drive to know more about your product/services, and you will feel that your business is "work".

I do have a business on PET supplies and PET stores, and I have always been inlove with my furry and not-so furry animal friends.. This is something I have a passion on, and could talk about animals for hours without even tiring.. Because I enjoy animals, I am a member of various animal organizations/clubs so I got to easily market my services/product. Since I am also very familiar with animals, I know (as a pet owner) the needs and wants of my fellow dog owners--and I know the potential market too of my services. :)

Running a business is not easy, and ROI at times tend to be slow.. but if it works--im sure it will be rewarding. There is a gamble when you are setting up a business thats why you have to go heavy in planning before you start implementation. STUDY and Read, get more ideas. The internet has so much to offer and knowledge is at times just a click away :)

    Goodluck!
