calling something "green"??
Is there a certain requirement before it is advertised as green or as like a lot of things can companies jump on the bandwagon and call anything green.
To me a lot of it looks like a gimmick to get people to pay more for products. As with "green" power..yes it is green but its also a government target. So whether you bought the electricity for a green supplier or not these forms of generation will still be made.
The one what really gets me is organic food. Why do people pay over the odds for it in supermarkets when you can get just as good a quality food for local farms (a few near me use no pesticides as well)

Smile and be happy, things can usually get worse!

Whilst everyone would applaud any initiative that is environmentally beneficial, I believe you are absolutely correct that many firms are jumping on the ‘Green Wagon’ in a cynical attempt to cash in on well meaning, but gullible, people.
A typical example is a green coloured plastic power monitoring meter with advertising blurb that emphasises the environmental advantages of saving electricity; it costs £80 for a device that can be bought for £10 or so.
More serious are the cowboys operating in the alternative energy installation industry that exaggerate savings and overcharge £thousands by playing the green card. Their tactics verge on criminality.
As for those who advocate organic farming is the only way. Well I am old enough to remember the days before modern pesticides with my mother buying fruit and vegetables riddled with worms, slugs and caterpillars, half rotten potatoes and eggs where you could almost guarantee that one in a box would be ‘off’. Huge amounts of food were wasted - or thrown on the compost heap.0
