Would this financially link us?

I don't think they link you in stages or amounts. You're either financially linked or you're not. In this case, with a joint account, then they WILL be linked.msmicawber wrote:True, but not as much as if all or most of the bills and accounts are joint.Donedoingdebt Lightbulb moment January 2000. They do, though, when you move and try to open accounts with ultilities companies, or try to rent, companies look specifically at past record for their specific area as well as your overall credit scoring and act accordingly. A joint account can be closed and marked as such which gives you some distance from bad debt and one questionable entry on your file is much better than several. This is particularly handy if your entry is on e.g. Experian, but your credit search is carried out on e.g. Equifax - companies generally just choose one for their search. The more black marks you have, the more likely they are to be spread across more than one company. Just damage limitation, really.Debt at highest: £6,290.72 (14.2.1999)

For what it's worth, this is a serious point worth thinking about. I started living with someone who had never managed bills/household stuff etc, and I agreed to handle it all. Seemed fine at first, until more and more of the household management came my way. Everything that needed to be done would only get done when I organised it. It does breed resentment, and turns you into a nagging fishwife - horrible feeling!
I think Calley made the point about needing a partner and not a child? She is so very right, and I have the divorce papers to prove it!!
Make him put his bills for his house in his name, and make him sit down with you and sort out all the direct debits and payments. If you want to help him, then get him to share online access of an account with you, so you can share the responsibility. Just don't take it over.... you will end up kicking him and yourself up the backside.
Good luck hon, xxSome days, it's just not worth chewing through the leather straps....
