Extra payment made to keep open an option to settle - can I get money back?

I am on a DMP and one of my creditors offered a very generous offer to settle my account (25% of outstanding balance).

They have not defaulted my account yet but were about to.

To keep this settlement option open I paid them £250 at the end of April (to prevent default) and said it would screw up my monthly budget unless I could get the money off family to pay the settlement.

Unfortunately my family cannot help me find the £3k I would need to settle the account and I am now wishing I had not paid the creditor £250 which I could ill afford and now having nothing left for the rest of this month.

I am pretty certain there is no way I can get that £250 back, but is there any recourse I can take to reclaim this?

The best you can do, which would be reasonable, is have this accepted as early payment of agreed monthly payments.
