Cheap meals!

Basically, me and the OH have around £50 to last us until next Friday.

We need to keep £10 for petrol so really, £40 to last us until then.

We are hitting Asda after work to do a food shop to basically get as much as we can for little money (i've already read the 27p offers post so will be keeping an eye out for those!)

Can anyone suggest any nice meal ideas that are cheap yet filling?

The only problem is the OH is a coeliac (sp?) so cant eat gluten and wheat which takes our food shopping up because the free-from items are so pricey!

I'm probably the worst imaginitve (again sp?) cook in the world but I am willing to give it a go in order to make some cheap meals.

Could do with ANY ideas as we usually just stick to the same old but I really want to do a stupidly cheap shop tonight!

Fellow coeliac here so understand your problem.

Does your OH get items free on prescription? No good for this weeks crisis, but he can get bread, pasta , pizza bases basic biscuits rolls etc. and flour. You shouldn't NEED to buy free from range, but sometimes its convenient and nice. You need to speak to your GP if you don't have this already.

Meanwhile for this week, how about a frittata (potato omlette). Can be eaten hot one day and cold the next for lunch.

Risotto is also GF and can be made cheaply.

Home made soup is good for lunches - why not make a vat of it.

    Jacket spuds cheap and filling.

I'd still buy some GF pasta , but ordinary for you, as this makes a filling meal. Cook a little extra pasta and make a pasta slald for the next days lunch.

Sainsburys have sweedish meatballs for 99p at the moment and they are GF.

Baked bean and sausage chilli would be cheap to make too. GF sausages were 2 packs for £3 in Tesco , not sure if the offer is still on.

Sausages and mash with the other packet maybe?

    Hi thanks for the reply!

Apparently his GP has stopped giving him free food on prescriptions as his mum has the same and now they both have to pay for food.

Not entirely sure what happened or how long ago that was but I will ask him later.

The baked bean and sausage chilli does sound good... we currently have some sausages in the fridge so might suggest that for tonight! Yum yum!
