Natwest chasing 8 year old debt

Natwest are currently chasing me for an 8 year old debt which comes from a Ltd company that was liquidated in 2002.
A cheque was paid in prior to liquidation for £16,450. Natwest claim to never have received it! although we have a letter from Natwest confirming.
Any ideas hoe to deal with this????

What sort of debt was it?
Did you own the limited company? Did you give a personal guarantee on the debt?

Was the cheque for £16450 from another account of yours or from a third party (such as a customer)? What date was this cheque paid in? are you certain it was cashed and did not bounce?

As its a business issue, i would personally give business debtline a call.

Most likely response is the cheque was paid and confirmed. Send them a copy of their own letter back - http://www.bdl.org.uk/

I had a personal guarantee on the overdraft of the ltd co. The cheque was paid in well in advance of the liquidation and then on the day of the liquidation the cheque was countermanded. Natwest have since advised that they do not have any records of this happening as their computer systems were in the process of being changed to RBS!

Regardless of other issues, if you have not acknowledged in writing or paid this debt for a period of 6 years then the debt would be "statute barred" and so legally unenforceable.

Presumably you haven't written to them acknowledging the debt or made a payment from 2002 to 2008?
