no it's an old thread but tried this on my ONLY copy of Windows XP pro that had got a bad scratch on it, few minutes of rubbing with brasso wadding that comes in a tin , could read it with a few problems. 2nd go to pick up some other scuffs and BINGO was able to read/use the CD !!!
highly recommend this rather than a £25 kit from maplins etc!!Ex forum ambassador

Thank you for this tip as I thought that the only thing you could do with scratched CDs and DVDs was to turn them into bird scarers.Grocery Challenge for April £250:) spent £ 96

DH thought of this himself a couple days ago.:money:
Unfortunately our disc was obviously too scratched :mad: , and now I am having to watch for a replacement on ebay :rolleyes: - £4.50 damage :eek: !!!0
