i have been hiding from my debt for too long and now want to get it sorted.

i have an old loan with L TSB i am now paying.

i had too accounts with natwest on my credit file they say the defaulted in 2007 for just over £2000 owing on both adv gold and staff current(opened when work for them).

now i dont have any account numbers only the branch sort code. I have been in touch with CS and collections both cant find my old accounts spoke with the branch over the phone still nothing they tried with my name(full) Address, post code, DOB but nothing. They say that i should go into the branch but this is tough due to my working hours but cant see what different they could do ask i spoke with them over the phone.

sorry if its a bit long any advice needed as I want to clear my debt while im still youngish.

    Hi muffinman

It may well be that natwest have sold your debt on to to a debt collector. Have you moved address since you defaulted? have you ever had a debt collection agency chase you for the debt?

It might be worth getting a copy of your credit file to see if you can establish from that who owns the debt now.

  • on my credit file my old loan with L TSB is with a DC its show on my file as outstanding to the DC, But the amounts owed to natwest say natwest.

i have moved but my address is but had nothing and my mom still lives in my old address and nothing.

would natwest not have any records of me at all if the debt was sold?

    Thanks

Well they should still have a record but don't always. Are you on the electoral roll?

If you have only just got your credit file at your new address it could be that there is a DCA but they have not located you, or it could be that the debt has only just been sold on. Maybe they will contact you soon.
At least if you can still pick up mail from the old address you will be forewarned if a DCA does try to contact you there or take court action based on that address.

If you want to start repaying the debt now it could be worth writing to natwest with a subject access request (cost £10), they should be able to find you and send all the information they have on you.
Aside from that perhaps you could start saving the money you would use to repay this debt so that when someone contacts you you have a lump sum to offer in full & final settlement.

Muffinman, I have a similar situation with Natwest where they cant find a large cheque that was paid in!
How old is the debt? Will it fall under statute barred (6 years)??
