I did this once before (fitted bedroom) when VAT was due to go up and the Credit Card company told me they were jointly liable with the supplier even though my debt to them was only modest proportion of the contract price?!?

The bedroom was fitted about a month after the VAT increase so I never got to claim and find out for sure.

Anyone got an opinion as to whether this is a good idea.?

Depends on your view as to the likelihood / imminency of any VAT increase?
But if you've contracted to buy the car and you can get a reasonable delivery estimate before 22nd June (surely not difficult?) and the dealer will accept full pre-payment / issue an invoice ....... then it's presumably a better return on the money than you're getting in interest?
If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !

Car is coming from an internet broker and the delivery date is sometime in July

Hmmmm .......... in which case I wouldn't be pre-paying under any circumstances.
