Its not exactly a celebration that needs planning and i don't think its in the same league as most occasions and celebrations on this board. However, sometimes there just isn't a board for what your doing so you just have to go to the place your query fits most.
Anyway, I'm having a barbecue for about 15-20 of my friends. My garden is too small for such an event. I live in a little village and we have plenty of cool little spots that are unused and would be perfect for it. There used to be a cricket park where i live and now its basically an empty field. Its far away from the village, with only farms and woodland around it. As i said its unused, no one goes there apart from the occasional dog walker. We arent intimidating people, all are pretty friendly, although were young(between 20 and 24). Anyway we would like to have a couple of steaks and a few beers but were unsure about the legalities of it all. I've searched the internet and i can find some info but i cant train to be a lawyer on google so I'm wondering if anyone is trained in such matters(police, lawyer, judge etc) and is willing to help me out. So whats the law? Whats likely to happen? With regards to the barbecue and most importantly the alcohol comsumption bit.
I would also like to point out that i have never, nor will I ever wear a track suit outside of sports/althetic events.
oh and i live in scotland if that makes any differences from UK law.

I'm afraid I can't help with the legalities, but I would have thought that the ownership of the land might make a difference here. If it's owned by the local council it may well have different rules than if it's owned by a local business or individual. While you're waiting for a reply, it might be worth trying to find this out.
The cricket pitches in my home village were either on pub land or on farm land so if this was the case I'd take a few beers round to the owner and ask politely if you can have a BBQ there. Assure them that you'll be tidying up completely after yourselves, using a raised BBQ (so not scorching or setting fire to anything) and that you won't be passing on the location to others. The last thing they'd want is hundreds of much less responsible people leaving glass and metal on the ground and setting fire to dry grassland.0 -
Thanks for your input. The cricket park hasn't been in use for 20 years and its definately not owned by a pub but it could be either of the other two. I've known there to be cows in it when i was younger actually so maybe its farm land. I havent seen it being used like that for 10 years so dont know if its council owned or privately owned. Any Ideas on how i would find this information out? the farms that are around it arent very close to it so theres no way of telling who it would belong to that way. Oh and we all know not to leave any trace of us being there. I'm a huge fan of the ray mears shows and bushcraft in general so ive picked up alot of the information on how to respect nature and keep it looking the way it should0

Barbe's are for Summer bay,The gold coast,California,Malibu...when they move to the UK they just translate into windswept misery, noise, drinking and diarrhoea.
Sack it,,use your cooker.Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0 -
The first thing you need is permission from the landowner!
After that you need to consider (seriously) how you are going to manage: rubbish, toilets, and emergencies (ie what if the bbq gets knocked over, sets light to the hedge .....)
Otherwise I would approach the parish council about establishing spots for such gatherings ...0 -

You would think so but the weather weve been having lately(well where i live dont know about you) is screaming for one.The first thing you need is permission from the landowner!

I think your stressing over the wrong things. I might be 22 but I'm very responsible. I've taken care of all those issue, I'm 5 minutes from my house so toilet issues sorted(and all the men are more than happy to pee in the woods) it used to be a cricket park remember the barbecue has plenty of open space around it and theres a river running along the side. No bushes to speak of either. And to manage the rubbish I'll take a bin bag. Its a small get together not T in the park.
