Job hunting getting me down

I don't want to offend anyone as I know there are people in worse situations than myself, but Job hunting is really getting me down. I am full time employed at the moment and I would probably be safe to say that my job is secure at the moment, however I desperately want to progress and cannot do that within the company I currently work for. When I started at the company I took a £5000 pay drop as I wanted to train to become an accountant. I was promised a pay review after 6 months and had to fight to get an increase to the same as my team which I got after 8 months. I now have 1 exam left before I'm accounting technician qualified and I need to find another job to get the pay rise and the study support I need to get Chartered but it's just not happening. I've put sooo much emphasis on this for the last 4 years and now it's falling apart and without it I feel like we're going to go under! I feel like i'm letting the team down and it sucks badly. Please tell me there's hope:(

Have you registered with the agencies specialising in accounting roles? Reed, Hayes etc..0

Hi Minnie
Yes I'm registered with them all, I've been really disappointed with all of them. I keep calling them regarding vacancies that I see and always get a we'll get back to you and it sucks. I asked to be put forward for one the other day that said graduate would be an advantage but didn't need to be a graduate. The agency told me they would have to speak to the company as they really wanted graduates and the doesn't have to be a graduate was there as they have to be seen as not being discriminating against non grads

They don't sound very good I am not even registered with agencies and they hassle me all the time (I'm AAT qualfied with 8yrs experience).
How many years experience do you have. If I was you I would wait until I was fully AAT qualified with at least 2-3 years experience before attempting to move on.0 -
Hi Minnie, I have 2 and half years experience and I know it may sound strange but I love it, i've become so passionate about it and I find it so interesting. I just want to use it!!!!!! I loved budgeting, forecasting, cash flow and I can do nothing with it at the moment. I know being AAT qualified will open up more jobs to me. I did get an interview through an agency for a Trainee Tax position and the agency made a typo on my cv saying I had ATT instead of AAT it was so embarassing having to explain that I didn't have a taxation qualification.
Do you mind if I ask what you think of accounts now you're 8 years in?0 -
Have you asked the agencies what the problem is, are jobs just slow at the moment in your area, do they think you need more experience or to wait until you have finished your AAT. They should be giving you feedback really.0

In all honesty they just don't bother, for the job I interviewed for I got really nice feedback, the only question was over my AD-HOC capabilties as I work in a very structured role, they said If anything was to come up in management accounts I would be their first recommendation. I've always been a big believer in things happen for a reason I'm just losing site of it at the moment as there doesn't seem to be a reason! I think there are jobs out there I just don't feel like I'm being given fair exposure as I'm not a graduate. I think I'm going to mail drop some cv's direct to companies and see whether anything comes of it.
PS your signature has got my curiosity going???0 -
