HSBC Debt

Sorry if this is in the wrong place, am new to site so just move it if you need to!

When my oldest child was born (she is now almost 8, just to show you how long I have been dealing with this), I got into trouble with my HSBC account. I was overdrawn, and also had outstanding on a loan from them. What they did was consolidate all that I owed them into a managed loan account, I think at the time I owed them somewhere in the £3000's, cant remember the exact amount.

Over a year ago, I sorted myself out on to DMP (through Debtline) and as one of my creditors, HSBC were paid via the DMP, now they wouldnt accept a smaller amount, they would only accept the monthly amount that the managed loan had originally been set at, but amongst all my other debts, I was paying less overall than if I paid them all seperately, but HSBC were still getting their required amount.

Fast forward a few months and my payment to my DMP have been very sporadic, I have struggled to even pay that, and will probably not use them again, I will offer them all what I can and take it from there, and I know slowly but surely I will get letters from all my creditors. I got one today and I have emailed them with my situation.

HSBC on the other hand are nothing short of unhelpful. I still owe them over £2400, and thats after nearly 8 years, and because of my missed payments and how long its gone on and how long its been in the hands of their collections team already, they DEMAND (yes that word was in capitals on the letter too!) full repayment in 18 days (letter was dated the 5th).

I have tried to phone them several times to discuss it, and I have hung up in sheer frustration because every time its someone overseas who answers, and I can't understand a word they say. The last person I did manage to speak to, said there was no way they would be able to help me regarding a repayment plan, because its not in the hands of their collections team anymore, I asked well who is it with then, he didnt seem to be able to tell me that. On the letter it says 18 days or they may take action via debt collector, solicitor, or court action.

so it seems again they are unwilling to help and they want the full amount whether i can afford it or not. I know they must be pretty chewed off, to be fair I have messed them about but I really do want to sort this all out now, and I am just looking for some advice on what to do.

I am half inclined to just let it go to the debt collector, because they will probably accept a payment plan, but I am thinking I may just have to go to the CAB about this, short of speaking to an actual person in my branch, who usually like to make you feel about an inch tall.

This is my biggest debt out of all of them, and the one I am most worried about.

thanks in advance for any replies or help! :)
