Work Bonus: what happens next?

Hi all,

I haven't been on here for a month or so (went B/R early Feb) but have just been told that I am due for a annual bonus at work of £1100. In normal circumstances, this would be fantastic and just what we need, my car needs a whole new airbag/steering column, etc, MOT due.....however, I am assuming with the B/R this needs to be declared and they may take it?? Also, as I receive child tax credits, I am assuming they will want to know, my payments get changed and yet I won't receive anything if it goes to the BR?? Am I better off not receiving it?

Can anyone shed any light as to what happens in these circumstances, it would be much appreciated....

I felt a kind of high thinking of what I could do with the money and then went straight to a low when I realised the reality of it!! :(

The sad thing is I've worked so hard and have been under a lot of pressure at work and this is just what my son and I need, mind you i'm sure there's many in the same circumstances.

Thanks all,

    hi there
you will need to let the OR know and they will decide whethr they take it or not. gutting when you've worked so hard i know...fingers crossed for something

any bonus, payrise, change in circumstances you need to let them know within 21 days - i'd drop them an email, it'd quicker

    good luck

Hi, I had something similar about two months after going BR, it was about £600 - the OR initially said that they wanted it all but then I sent in a letter detailing reasons why we needed to keep all if not most of it - like yourself we needed car repairs, car tax & something else which I can't remember. The OR allowed me to keep it.

So maybe don't expect to be able to keep it all but send in an optimistic estimate of how much you are going to need to cover the car repairs etc and they could be willing to negotiate with you, especially if the car is essential for work etc.

    Good luck with it. :)
