Can a third party pay towards my arrears

Can my mother write a cheque to the CSA to be paid towards my arrears?

She wants to pay £500 towards them and has given me a cheque made out to the csa.

On the back she has written "towards the arrears of [my name] who lives at [my address] who is the father of [my daughters name]".

If I put it in the post to them with a brief note from me given my name, address, ni number and case reference will they accept it and pay it towards my arrears or are they likely to send it back to me?
When dealing with the CSA its important to note that it is commonly accepted as unfit for purpose, and by default this also means the staff are unfit for purpose.

In theory yes, but be cautious.

I would if this is your plan, also include your CSA reference no, your national insurance number and also state very clearly 'this payment is Child Support for child 1 ******* *******'. Make sure you photocopy the cheque and any covering letter, send recorded delivery, print off Royal mail signature/barcode as proof they have received it.

Wouldnt it just be easier if mum wrote you a cheque and then you sent them one directly from your account.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

So it is within the CSAs procedures for them to accept cheques from third parties towards peoples arears.

  • As far as I am aware they will take money off anyone to pay your arrears, its the cash they are interested in,not who funds it.

I was asked if I could scrounge money off friends and family to pay them, outrageous, and insulting. This shouldnt be allowed surely.I told them to go forth,as anyone with any dignity or sense should do.

    Thats a bit of a cheek asking you to borrow from friends etc;

My mum won 2 grand at bingo last week.

She is given me and my big bro £500 each and keeping a grand for herself.

She offered it, I would never have asked and to be honest dont expect her to pay.

This appears to be quite a common practice now.
Many on here have been asked/told by the bods at the csa to put arrears on a credit card :(

Just deal with them in writing and a lot of your problems will go away. Its more time consuming but it is effective.
