HOLDING BACK TECHNOLOGY ON DVD-R

Options
Surely the name DVD RECORDER is supposed to do what it says on the box...

Why is it that every manufacturer releases their products with a 1hr maximum capacity to record onto a blank DVD?

To fit the full length of a movie onto your DVD-R, you have to reduce the quality to that of the now extinct Super VHS!

Als, now that SKY transmit movies in 5.1 DIGITAL, where is the opion to record this to the machine.....?

I personally think were being conned here, considering some people have paid over £1000 in th past to have one.

My theory is they are holding back releasing the technology until the market is swomped with useless and clumsy DVD recorders, at which point theyll
re- elease it as its supposed to operate- by accepting DVD-9's. (higher capacity storage DVD-R's)

has this technology advanced yet- and can someone help me out?

Thanks

Danny ???

I suggest you research the term copyright. This is not a glib suggestion as copyright protection is a major part of law that is undergoing radical revision in the US and EU.

I take your point. Although i do understand the copyright argument.

Except with Music, people break freely it every day downloading MP3's, same with Movies, from illegal but easily accessable sites.

I know its possible to convert DVD movies, removing encryption codes etc. Many shareware programmes you can download now do it.

Its a loosing battle, that starts with te idea of:

"heres a DVD Recorder, oh but youre not allowed to copy DVD's with it".

    or the American philosophy

"Heres a gun, oh but youre nt allowed to pull the trigger"

Some-one, somewhere wil, and probably is..

Time for a reality check on this is all im saying... making this illegal does not stop people doing them- ripping them off with a useless item probably does.

Debate is open to offers please...

I need to make more sense of 1 part :

"Making this illegal does not stop people wanting to copy DVD's. Offering us a useless product only fuels the situation"

    Time for reality check

    open to debate

Digital copying/distribution technologies and the evolving laws are commentated upon here http://www.doom9.org/
You would get eaten alive in the forum. So many rules.
You cannot even ask what is best as it all depends upon individual circumstances.

why is it illegal to copy movies. I thought it was acceptable if the copy is going to be for yourself as a backup to a movie you have bought. (as you already hold the licence) I try and backup cds etc which i know are prone to get lost or broken n someway (like in my car)
Smile and be happy, things can usually get worse!

"youre joking....you dont do you!!! oh...my lord! :o:o

You must remove all your personal details from this site, quick, before they catch you.... i mean, the police, and the government surely to god must be going through every computer in the uk...no, the world...no, the universe....with a fine toothcomb, yes, the finest of toothcombs....and suddenly realising that the combined effort it would take to eradicate the problem would probably leave us without a police force anymore...
"better leave this one guys..... we could be here a looooooooooooooooooooooooooooong time"

"This wonderful law... for the sake of upholding the law... Wait, thats it.... the copyright law. ...ok.....ok....Lets at least be seen to be doing the right thing....for erm..... for the purpose of....errrm..... yes, ......wait.....erm....... not stopping people doing it" ;)
