Wedding rings not what we ordered

1 week and six days to go…..

Went to pick up the wedding rings on Saturday to find out that they are not the shape that we ordered.
Neither of us are used to wearing rings and OH particularly averse, so we decided to order them specially from a local jeweller so that they were both comfort fit and fitted up against the engagement ring properly.

The alternative was a quick trip to Argos, but we both agreed that we wanted the different shape and were pleased that we could support a local business.

We were flummoxed when what he gave us were D shaped. Especially when we could have bought the same thing from a high street jeweller for a fraction of the price.

We’ve already paid a deposit and are going in later to ask him what he can do to fix them, but from conversations my OH is having with the jeweller, he’s not going to give us what we ordered without paying more.

I’m really annoyed as the jeweller only contacted us once during the whole time he’s been doing them, and that was to tell us that he couldn’t do the inscription we’d asked for, so he changed it and managed to get that wrong too.

I’m perfectly prepared to take our deposit back and go to the high street for our rings, but am now worried that there might not be enough time to order them in time for the wedding – and what if he refuses to give us our deposit back?

Anybody got any advice as to how to approach this?

there must be grounds for a full refund there, you've asked for a certain type and he hasn't done it and from the sounds of it, done a bodge job. i'd demand my money back and go elsewhere, try somewhere like hsamuels who may be able to transfer rings from other stores if they don't have them in stock

If the goods are not as ordered then complain and ask for your money back, also contract trading standards for advice.

What does your order say? Does it state the inscription & style of ring?

    Hi Floss,
The Jeweller has all of our paperwork (hits head against desk in frustration) as we went in to look at the rings, he took all of our details and then after OH & I had chance to talk about it, OH called and placed the order and paid over the phone.

But that has got me wondering if OH paid by credit card...

    - nope, just checked, came straight out of the wedding account. :(

Ring Trading Standards and ask them what your options are - number will be on council website ;)

Will all depend on what the order said, seeing as he has it you might be struggling.

Thanks so much for your comments.
We went in this afternoon prepared for anything, what we weren't prepared for was an apology and a full refund!
We were so relieved that we went straight to Argos to buy their cheapest, cheeriest available rings in our sizes to get us through the wedding next week!
    Thanks,

I'm glad it sort of worked out- but it's such a shame you can't get what you want in time for the actual wedding :( What a c*ck up! Hope you finally get what you wanted.. I don't see why it was so difficult! Silly man  but at least he had the decency to apologise

That good news, i admit it did not sound good from what you posted. At least he has refunded you and given you an apology. Best of luck with your wedding

Im really glad it worked out ok for you- maybe in the future you could get the rings you wanted.
My Oh ring came in and it was the wrong one.
Except he is so quite he never wanted to say anything when he collected it- I took it back the other day- dreading that we would be stuck with the wrong ring ,as it cost £435 . But fortunately they were lovely and we got a replacment there and then- as they had his size in.
So phew good to know some jewellers have good customer services.
