Help Tax Return?

My husband was employed on a self employed basis for a couple of months before being "put on the books". So he has earnt a couple of thousand pounds without paying any tax.

He has phoned the tax office twice, once to let them know he was self employed and again a couple of months later to tell them he was now an employee.

He is now trying to fill out the tax return which I've downloaded of the internet! He hasn't recieved anything from the Tax Office.

I'm I right, as he is not very good with forms, all he needs to fill out is the main tax return forms employment page? I have also downloaded the empolyment page SA102 2010. Should he fill that form in to?

Many thanks for any input.

It sounds as if he was employed the entire time but there was a PAYE failure. I would put the whole lot on an employment page.

    He needs to complete

    SA100 - tax return
SA102 - employment page - this is for the period he was through the book
SA103 - Self Employment page - I suspect the short version will do if he was only self employed for a couple of months. make sure he fills in the date that the self employment finished, so HMRC will know he is no longer self employed.
    He's not an accountant - he's a charlatan

This would give the appearance of complicity in the PAYE failure, why did the employer not operate PAYE?

What would be interesting to know is what paperwork there was surrounding his 'self employed' period - did he have a letter from the company stating perhaps that they were going to use his services as a consultant or for a specific project? It is usually hard for a company to employ someone without operating PAYE for obvious reasons.
