I'll start the story with... Once upon a time
I had insurance for my car and unknown to me one payment didn't go through. A month later I get a few calls from numbers I didn't recognise so didn't answer them. These were after I googled them, my insurance company. I then get a letter saying they have cancelled my insurance for non payment. I then ring the number that I did know for them and on the letter asking why. They said they had already written a letter asking why I had missed a payment and could they sort it out. This I never got and said to them I wasn't happy and they should have sent out at least one other letter before cancelling, which in turn meant I had driven about with no insurance!! I then asked if they would take the outstanding money and continue with the insurance, they said no and would have to pay a deposit again and start again. I said NO I'll go elsewhere.
THEN.... I get texts saying to ring an 08445 number from CRS to pay etc etc amount. then calls, emails, more calls and emails and then some letters. In the texts they kept saying in 48 hours someone will be round to take collection.
On Saturday morning alone I had over 10 calls!!! That I think is excessive and is harrassment. Past few weeks have had calls upto 3 or 4 times a day plus texts.
The calls on saturday finished at about 11.45am then got a text saying they could not wait any longer for payment. By the way the payment goes up and down in the letters.
Today I get a letter ..

OK
1. the amount of times they keep calling and texting IS harrassment
2. the number they say to ring is chargeable ie like 7p a minute or whatever which they are NOT allowed to do
3. they don't say what the debt is for in their letters
Can I just tell them to sod off?

Probably not a good idea to tell them to sod off.
You know you owe some money and it sounds like they intend to take action to recover this.
I would write to them with the prove it letter asking for proof of the debt and the balance they are claiming. You could at the same time send the letter asking them only to contact you in writing.
Then if they provide the proof I would either make arrangements to pay, or if you cannot afford to pay in 1 lump sum then offer a monthly payment arrangement.
