Well, I just wanted to say a heartfelt thanks to everyone who offered their advice back in January when I posted my SOA and asked for support.
By going through my DDs and SOs with a fine-tooth comb and getting rid of or reducing everything I could, plus cutting back on food bills and virtually every other household expense, I've managed to reduce our spending by nearly £800 per month (which I am putting towards our CC debts). I had a clear-out via eBay that generated £2000. And I'm most excited to report that I've started to generate more income through an idea that I've had kicking around for a few years.
I had a bit of 'tough love' when I posted my SOA, but it was precisely the kick in the derriere that I needed.
To all newbies: it takes a lot of courage to ask for help, but the real courage comes when you implement the sage advice that is offered here (for free!) and CHANGE! If you can persevere, though, you'll feel better than you have in a long while. It is so liberating to regain control of your finances.
Thanks again to everyone who makes this community such a valuable place.

The SOA is the big moment for many people as it is the 2nd step after admitting the debt, seeking help.
You off to an excellent start, well done!Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.
There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies0

Hi Sanctuary. Its good to see those debts reducing. Don't forget to keep snowballing so that you clear them as quickly as you can.Find out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)0

Yes it is indeed amazing what MSE can do! And I also agree that posting the SOA was the "Eureka" moment. I guess it's similar to any "recovery" program ... admitting you need help is the all-important step.
For me, it was quite startling how my mindset changed the moment I posted my SOA. I stopped living in denial and feeling like a victim of circumstances that I, after all, had created. And as soon as you change your mindset and become determined to be pro-active, you are no longer a victim.
I hope to be able to provide some useful information in the "Up Your Income" section in the next couple of months, once I'm able to establish if my working model is genuinely successful (as opposed to merely beginner's luck). I'd certainly like to be able to give something back to MSE.0
