I've lived in both areas(NE and London) and although the cost of living may be different you also have to take into consideration the standard of living. Cost and standard are two different measures but the latter is somewhat subjective.I'd imagine that the cost of living in the north east is much closer to Manchester than London.
If cost is the main driver then I wonder why we haven't seen a headline on the main site saying "Up your income by 27% - move from London to Manchester, Newcastle, Leeds..." etcAwaiting a new sig0 -
Because salaries are also lower.
But surely not 27% higher in the South East/London? I think that many of those who complain about the cost of living in London (and going back to the post that started this offshoot suggesting that the tax system should reflect this) are conveniently forgetting about the benefits of the standard of living.
