Preplanned absense/sickness question re pay

I've got an operation in August and need 10 days off sick to recover. By that time I would have worked 21 months. I had a quick look at my colleague handbook, it states that I ;will not be paid for my first three days of scheduled days of my first 2 year of employment'.

The thing is, HR are such an awkward dept to contact, as everytime I want to see someone, no-one is there!

I know for example I got paid leave for the medical appts for the same hosp dept and my grandfather's funeral, even though they were just a day.

Do you think I will get full pay for my recovery as they knew about my absense in advance or get paid from my 4th day onwards?

I agree with JDT, pay will be from the 4th day of absence.

Do you not have a handbook of your own.

Send your HR an urgent email.

Even if you are on standard ESA you lose the first 3 days which are called 'waiting days'

First three days unpaid is statutory sick pay scheme. Firms can offer to pay those days if they want but they don't have to. As it is stated in your handbook, it seems clear that your firm sticks to SSP, so I wouldn't expect to get paid for them.

Although it was a bit ambiguous I got the impression that the OP would not get the first 3 days but would be paid full pay and not SSP, i wonder if the OP knows whick or has he assumed that it will be full pay for a certain amount of time.
