Letter from CapQuest for £24,000 Natwest debt from 2003

I've also just received a letter from CapQuest offering me a "no gimmick" discount of 30% on a NawWest "debt" going back to 2003. They claim the debt is £24500!! This is the first time I've been contacted by anyone about this and in this manner. My first thoughts (after a mild panic attack) was to ignore this letter as it did smell of a scam. Please can someone advice whether I shold ignore this or do something.
Thanks

Sorry, but going to have to ask for a lot more info before we can work out the best course of action.
What sort of debt are they claiming?
Credit card or loan? Or is something like a shortfall from the sale of a property?
Is this something that could have been yours, or are you sure that you know nothing of it?
Do you think it is from 2003 or is that what they have said?Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB
