Mull tips please!
Off to Mull tomorrow and thought I would see if anyone has any last minute tips for me and the family (kids 5 and 8).
We have car booked, ferry booked and accomodation booked but thought I would see what you Scottish experts think!!
Have been told there is a large Tesco in Oban so was going to get some food and drink from there to take over in car.
Any tips or ideas appreciated.
Thanks

Been quite a few times, nice and quiet place away from the city hustle and bustle. There is indeed a tesco's in Oban, stock up.
Beautiful beaches and have always found the locals friendly and helpful.
Been to Iona a couple of times, found it spookily calming place, untouched almost, but maybe it had been commercialised since I was last there.
Enjoy your holiday!

If you're taking the kids Torosay castle is great fun. get a dinky train from near Craignure up to the castle. great playpark and nice gardens.
calgary beach is a must!! Tobermory is lovely. the tourist info at Craignure is big and full of great info. i can see the ferry to mull from my house so i'll wave to youand if you see a frazzled woman fighting over coupons in Tesco that's me:D

Is Tobermory anything like Balamory on tv? Is it lovely we town to visit anyway?
How much is ferry and where on island of Mull is good value accommodation?0 -
Tobermory is Balamory- they didn't call the series Tobermory because of the Womble with the same name.
I don't think there's a pink castle, but they do have painted houses.
Say hi to Miss Hooley and PC Plum. (not really-but there will probably be a tour of the houses or something-I remember reading about how much money Tobermory has made off the back of Balamory tourism)Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

Tobermory is built on a very steep hill and all the character's houses are spread about all over the town. They are quite easy to find though as you find loads of people wandering about with the very bad map you get and everyone is happy to tell you which house they have just been to but you spend a lot of time seemingly going up and down.

The best idea for going to Mull is to leave it until the ferry prices drop for the Winter. The prices in the Summer are much higher to capitalise on the tourist market. The locals also pay much less as they can buy multiple tickets at once, whilst tourists only need to go there and back.
I would recommend Glengorm Castle. Tom Nelson will see you are well looked after. http://www.glengormcastle.co.uk for more information.
I would also suggest getting a meal at The Anchorage Restaurant in Tobermory. They serve Highland Beef Steaks that I would recommend.
For those not able to go there, http://www.scottish-highland-beef-cattle.co.uk is where I get the beef locally. Hilary and Bernard have a stall at my local farmers market in Dundee, they also do Stirling if you are want to pop along. They have also been at some BBC Food events, so you might be able to catch them at one of them.0 -
If you are going to Mull try and get some of the excellent Highland beef from Ardalanish farm, described by Rick Stein in "Food Heroes" as the best beef he has ever tasted. Available from the farm or try the Isle of Mull Butcher in Tobermory. Mull is fortunate in that they have a small abattoir so that local animals can be slaughtered without having to leave the island.

The chocolate shop in Tobermory is great too!"The happiest of people don't necessarily have the

Tobermory Chocolate? That's a pity - I haven't been to Mull for a while - did they close recently? Their web site still seems active but mentions Easter chocolates so maybe that's when they closed?
