We got married last month and today I picked up my photos from our photographer.

I'm into photography and know my way round CS4, so didn't get an album as I wanted to put it together myself. I also wanted editorial control of the pictures (control freak), so I've got every RAW file the photographer took - very, very pleased about that.

I'm not looking for a MSE album - by doing it myself I'll be getting it at cost price, so I'm OK with that - but I'm looking for a nice, good quality album. And seeing as neither of us are very photogenic at all, our photographer took very lovely pictures and I want to treasure them for a long time (I think in the 5 years of our being together there are only a couple of pics we've ever liked!) and not have the colour of the album fade over time.

I've looked at Graphistudio as they seem to be up there for quality, but I'm not sure what the price would be (very expensive, but how expensive I don't know). I've also read a few bad reviews regarding customer service. Also, as I'm not a 'professional' photographer, would I even be allowed to use their services?

I think there are a few professional photographers on here - who do you use? And does anyone else have any other suggestions?

And just because we all like pictures on here, here are some of our special day.

As you are publishing the photographs here, can you 100% confirm that the copyright
belongs to you for this purpose not the photographer?

You have full rights of reproduction for personal use (including friends and family), although I retain the copyright.

But if you want me to take wedding photos down on a wedding forum...
  • I used photobox - very good quality!- have a play - they've got an offer on at the mo. http://www.photobox.co.uk/landing/pb-free?channel=1800

Graphistudio are very good but will not supply you unless you are a pro I'm afraid. Some pro's they also refuse to supply if they do not meet their requirements.

Loxley Colour Bellissimo Albums are in my opinion superb and will allow "1 offs". You do not get to see prices unless you register and I'm not sure if they allow non-pro's. They allow a choice of using their own software (LDP) to design your album - which is very easy to use and what I use. Or you can upload your own pages from CS4. I do not think you will get any pro togs stating on a website what their wholesale price is and for those buying an album, the increased prices also reflect the time spent editing images and doing the actual design - which can take ages to get it right.

I cannot comment on the likes of photobox, as I have never used them

Hi - the issue, as you've pointed out is whether you'd be able to deal with the printers in question. I've been at a trade roadshow and seen graphi knock back a jobbing photographer who hadn't done enough wedding to meet there standards - they really are an awkward bunch.

You could e-mail sim2000 - they are a dedicated wedding printer but I heard they were looking to supply direct to the end customer - no experience of that personally however. Of the general print-on-demand publishers who'll happily deal with you direct I'd look at the bobbooks 12" photographic book with the lay flat binding (if you e-mail them they'll give you all the info you need for setting up bleed areas etc in photoshop) and the deluxe landscape book from mypublisher - you normally get 2for1 with your first order with them.

I'm planning on doing the same (I'm a graphic designer so couldnt dream of paying someone to do this for me) and have been looking at Bobsbooks.

Photobox are GREAT but I would imagine they will end up dearer if you want a thick book.
