Wondered if anyone could tell me if its true that Abbey operate a "closed office"
Our mortgage adviser tells us that he is unable to contact them by phone to chase up our application. All he is able to do is send emails and faxes. I have read several threads mentioning how slow Abbey are with their mortgage process, but knowone has said they can't call Abbey to chase the application.
I'm worried that we are being mislead by our mortgage broker, who himself is very difficult tie down to a phone conversation himself! Is he being straight with us, or is this just a perfect excuse to stop us pestering him!
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I'm afraid they are talking absolute rubbish. We are currently in the throws of a mortgage application with Abbey and have many of discussions backwards and forwards. Our advisor has called them on many occasions along with his "contacts" finding out certain things away from the usual script... It's those contacts, advice and understanding of the process which are in my belief the reason you use a broker.

i've had a decision in principle and have just sent off my proof of income to the broker yesterday. i beleive the information was sent to the abbey late last night or early this morning. according to the broker i should have feedback in the next 48 hours, is this true?
am i correct in thinking that as long as the proof of income matches what the broker sent forward then we will be fine for mortgage approval?
i did a credit check via experian and can see that i have been credit checked by abbey when the decision in principle was done.
any thoughts, comments or advice would be great!0 -

Thanks, this is a very nervous time for me and my wife. any reassurance that the broker is not talking rubbish is good news!
some of the threads about abbey have scared me slightly!0 -
i've just heard back from the broker and the only question the abbey asked was "how we are going to get a deposit". the broker just confirmed that we are going to sell our house in order to use it as a deposit.
will the underwritters come back and ask any more questions or will they usually just ask any questions in one go????0
