I marked mine with Burger King... it was a cheap but significant way of doing so. I'd not eaten out for 10 months and it tasted soooo good lol.

Not for everyone obviously, but it was for me.

We'll be celebrating with a holiday. We pay just over £1,200 a month towards debt. With that money saved, we'll be booking a holiday the very first month that we are debt free!

After that, we'll be in serious saving mode!
    Friend Debt: 5,000/3,850
    2013 Start Mortgage: 306,585/306,585
    Overpayments: 0
    ISA Saver:
    £10
  • I like both of those! :D I definitely know what you mean LeeSE about missing something for that long.

I used to really fancy a holiday when I'm DF and if I do get to my DFD by next year I would have been paying a large amount to the debt per month too Jazzie. We will be a family of 3 by then and I have no idea what travelling with a little one will be like... plus this volcanic ash thing has really made me think about hols abroad for a while... so not sure how I would celebrate yet.

But I definitely want to visualise the day to keep my motivation up! There is a hotel in Scotland we were due to go to before OH lost his job in 2008, we had to cancel and were quite sad about it so that would be quite a nice thing to do.

    Can't wait!

That's a nice thought AoB - do you have a diary on here, would be good to follow your progress esp as you want to bring your DFD forward like me.

My sister will be here visiting on my DFD if it comes as expected, maybe I'll make her buy me dinner :)

But in all seriousness, I'll just enjoy being down to zero and starting fresh!

We enjoyed posting on the "how much have we paid off" thread and planning what to spend our money on now it is no longer monthly repayments. We saved for a few months and paid cash for a car for DH.
