Dealing With Debt - Out of Court Settlement

I need some advice. For over 17 year's I have been fighting the amount of Service Charge levied against my property. To cut a long story shor the company in question has agreed to settle out of court for just under £10'000 my solicitor tells me that this is a good deal even though he agrees as unfair as it is my lease had left me vunerable and even if I get no services I am libel :-(
The trouble is I am unemployed, single mother and struggling to meet simple day to day living I am currently a little behind in my mortgage and I have no spare cash.
I have had a few interviews but so far no new job but that still does not solve my immediate problem. Some kind of lump sum. I have asked family but they are not able to assist.
The only thing I can think of is to approach my lenders to see if they will extend my mortgage to include the Settlement I know that this will cost me far more than the origianl amount but if I want to keep my flat and ensure that my son has something when he is older I honestly don't see another way out or am I wrong?
Any assistance in this would be much appreciated.
