It's not a lie to not include everything you have on your CV, you should tailor every CV and every application to the job. I have certificates which are specific to different areas of work with various experiences attached and wouldn't dream of putting them all down for every job I apply for.0 -
You say that like it's the easiest thing in the world to get a job in a supermarket. Supermarkets don't just employ anyone who needs a job as a stopgap until something else crops up. It costs money for them to train new staff, induct them, clothe them, etc.
I've worked for two different supermarkets so have a pretty good idea what is involved and required."We act as though comfort and luxury are the chief requirements of life, when all that we need to make us happy is something to be enthusiastic about” – Albert Einstein0 -
Should banks really give loans to unemployed people and/or expect unemployed people to pay?
Ask yourself the other sid eof this question... Should banks stop lending to people with no job but with a desire to better themselves through education...
You can't have both, you can't "borrow" money to get a degree then say it shouldn't have been lent to you :mad::mad::mad::mad:The proof that some people really are opinionated and ignorant

Hi all,
I think in hindsight everyone expects that they will get a job after university. I was in the same pickle really. I took out a professional loan as I was studying law and needed to do my LPC. I did my LPC and was hoping that within the time I was studying, I could find a training contract with a law firm and start to become a solicitor. Unfortunately that was not the case, as I wrote over a hundred applications and did not get anything in regards to furthering my career.
The loan was due to be paid and I was unemployed. Luckily I got myself into a cheap job doing admin for the first year or so (after applying for lots of different jobs including car salesman, estate agent and fireman). That was enough to pay off the loan for the time being until I got something else. So it is plausible.
Good luck with it, try to take on any job possible just so that you can cover the loan.0 -
As you are presumably claiming JSA, you "might" be able to negociate lower repayments and pay it out of this. I doubt it, but you can only ask.0

I wouldn't either but you're assuming that's what they asked. In fact what they wanted me to change was more than ten years of my life before then. Effectively a decade gap that would make me an even worse candidate for any job. I may as well have a blank cv.
Leaving off the odd certificate is one thing but i doubt you could find a way of leaving out an entire degree and years of research without having an unusable application. And certainly if an application asks for last employment then isn't omission same as deception?"She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

Hello, not sure if you're still having problems but I am currently in a similar situation. The difference being, I AM employed but I still can't afford the repayments for my CDL.
The career I have chosen is ACTRESS... oh dear! And as many people know, that is a very difficult one to get into no matter how much training you've had.
So I have three jobs, two scare attractions and a cinema. I only have one day off a week and I am still struggling with the repayments for my CDL.
I think people need to realise is isn't that easy to get a job, all my jobs I got through people I knew cos otherwise companies wouldn't bat an eyelid with me being an actress and all. Why don't you ask a friend or someone in the family to put a good word in at their job? And yes, being over qualified is such a !!!! thing nowadays, everyone needs to earn a living and when people study and work so hard for years to be perfect at something and then all that hard work and time taken out of their life suddenly goes against them... thats just STUPID if you ask me!
I know how you feel anyway and I have been in contact with a charity for people in dept and unable to make repayments. It's called Consumer Credit Councelling Service (CCCS). Google them, they have a website. I called these people and they are AMAZING!! They put things into perspective and they let you know about the different dept priorities and how things like loans, credit cards and overdrafts are non-priority and if you can't pay it... YOU CAN'T PAY IT! They will set up a meeting with one of their credit councellors and they will discuss all the options you can take, and they can come up with a repayment plan that you can afford.
Also, this service is TOTALLY FREE!!! And the work in partnership with Barclays because Barclays know how unfair they can be.
Remember, banks DO NOT rule our lives. And thats something this charity has made me realise.
So don't worry about people saying, 'oh its the risk you took, now deal with it'. It's really not like that at all. There is always a way around things.
Hope that has helped. Good luck0 -
a lot of people on here seem to think you'd only ever take a low paid job as a last resort. for me this was not the case. i have a degree and decided i would rather work in retail than use my qualification, i got a part time job and worked my way up. however when i reached the top i decided i didn't want the constant pressure, now i work part time in a supermarket and I'm now happier than ever and a lot more solvent.
people can always find work when they are flexible, go and hand cv's face to face and take on temporary positions as this normally leads to more.Emergency fund saved, we did it!!

it is not the bank's fault - this sounds similar to the logic they apply to business loans:
'OK so you are worth little now in monetary terms but your business plan says that in 5 years you will be worth x amount and we believe you, here's £x - if you are successful you pay us back, if you are unsuccessful you still pay us back'
I congratulate you on your masters and I'm sorry that the jobs market is terrible - ultimately, until students realise that experience is the most important thing (maybe along with a degree), there will be hundreds more like you. Having said that, when I was at Uni, it was drilled into us that we needed work experience but few took up the offer.
Agency work/temping/lower paid work without mentioned your quals too loudly/bar work/kitchen work/borrow cash from family (not normally possible for most but you may be lucky)? surely you must have had some sort of part time or summer job while you were at uni?
what about showsec or catering firms that do footy matches etc?0
