we recently laminated our lounge and d/s bedroom. Got it from wickes, it was the fast fix 15 in planked elm effect, £15.66 a pack, or £7.99 sqm. Its gone down a treat and is living up to my 4 kids aged 1 1/2 to 10 and our crazy labrador lucy!! We used the board underlay instead of the foam one which is £19.99 1 pack but covers 10sqm.
You can download the booklet off the wickes website

    Hello Sammy-Kaye
I know you don't want to here this! But... I started off with this new craze to Have laminate flooring put down. We have it in the hall, down stairs toilet and front room-but the problem comes when things are spilled you are not ment to wash it! With our English winter weather all the rain water is walked in on shoes and buggy's...it is not good! I mop mine with a dryish j-cloth type mop, but this is a real no no and I fear the edges will peel in time. So we thought long and hard, had the pro's around and decided to have wood tiles in the back room. Wood look kitchen lino in the kitchen and conseryatory.
It does look realy nice, not to sure which type is best though with regards to the washing! Best Wishes

tbh i wouldnt get laminate - i've got it in my living room, it costs a fortune to get laid unless u know someone who can do it for u, it would be far cheaper to get carpet, think the cheapest i have seen is about £5.99m2 in carpet right or b&q.
I'm forever hoovering then moping the floor (i have a DS who is 2 and spills everything) I wish i'd of just got carpet now. You can feel the crumbs and stuff under ur feet and i hate that so walk round in my flip flops all day, DS cant wear socks on it as he slips, but if you do get laminate it would be better being fitted by a professional (this can cost the same as the flooring itself) xx

Back again! astosmummy is right in what she say's about socks and slipping, it is shoes on or bare feet! One good thing about wood flooring is ... there is no need for a hoover-be green and save electric-use a soft brush!
Spills can be wiped away, but with a carpet there are stains.
    Best Wishes

Oh one last thought, when the laminate was fitted all the skirting boards had to come off for it to go under!

  • Hi there, we got our laminate flooring from Homebase - not the cheapest but the next one up, I think it was around £4.79 per square metre when we got it. With two dogs I have found it to be absolutely excellent with them, I sweep it once a day and wash it every few days to a week depending on how bad it gets (depends on the weather really getting tramped in). I use a Vileda supermop on it which can be sqeezed out really well with a flash and water solution - no need for rinsing. Never found any problem with children - my sister has two little ones and her whole downstairs is laminate - pretty simple really, the kids wear slippers in the house all the time (saves wearing the socks out running about in them). I personally find carpets are terrible, with dogs they can end up smelly, food and dirt ground in, etc etc etc, at least with laminate you can clean it up when you see it. Oh, and the plus major plus for me is it is cheaper than lino unless you get a really cheap one (like we did and then had to replace it as it ripped on fitting!).

Re the fitting we did some of it ourselves and some done by a joiner friend in the room where we were replacing skirtings anyway as the old ones were knackered. Beading can be as little as £1 for about 12 feet and is not hard to fit around ontop of the laminate. The whole job can be as cheap as you like! Enjoy!

I don't think that's necessary. We fitted ours ourselves and just have some beading around the edges.

  • hi again, agree with the other posters about the socks issue. Does take a bit more effort than carpet imho cause of the sweeping and washing ( wash mine every night, each line then dry!!!) but its a 10 min job, doesn't matter if the dog has wet paws, wipe it up etc. Must say though, we did glue ours because of spilt drinks etc.
    pros......easy to clean and maintain
    cons......comfy, soft carpet
    you decide!!!

seconded. works out cheaper if you lay this yourself. I did this a year ago and looks excellent.
