Part of the Furniture 1,000 Posts Name Dropper Combo Breaker
I did the loo roll thing last year with sweet peas, but I also planted some seeds directly into the pots they were going to stay in outdoors. They all went into the porch in March (I think). I found the rolls a pain, the porch is warm, they needed plenty of watering, the loo rolls got soggy and were falling all over the place. The ones in pots came on at the same pace, and were easier to look after. I personally wouldn't use loo rolls again.
The egg boxes sound good tho.

I had the same problem with loo roll tubes -plus they started to go mouldy.

I am not a very experienced gardener so I apologise if this is common knowledge. I read somewhere on here about leaving seeds in a sunny place and putting the seed tray/ egg box in a freezer bag. Apparently you get enough condensation on the inside of the bag that you do not need to water them.
When life hands you a lemon, make sure you ask for tequilla and salt ;)

Don't worry Caz because cats will save you money when you grow your own veg. This year I had loads of runner beans and my mum's didn't do at all well, she started them all off so we didn't understand why they didn't do the same. But the birds had been sitting on her beans picking the flowers off, I have cats so obviously the birds had been staying away.
