im so angry! i was working for GAME as a deputy manager, I have recently had my contract cut so i started looking for a new job, had an interview for Assistant Manager at Coral Betting shop, they phoned me 2 weeks ago and told me id got the job, asked me what notice i had to give and told them 2 weeks, they said that would be ok and would contact me after then for a starting date, my last day at GAME was wednesday, still hadn't had another phone call off Coral so i just gave them a ring and the women told me because i hadn't gotten in contact with her for a starting date that she had to give the job to someone else!!!!!! !!!!!!?!?!? she said she was going to contact me! i now dont have a job at all! and as far as im aware im not even able to sign on for JSA for the time being because i left my job on my own accord!
Surely this isn't fair!

Oh dear!
Can you register for a temp/factory type job to keep you going?
What are your outgoings that need to be met?
Coral have shafted you by the sounds of it.. someone better came along and they have just 'forgot' you.9/70lbs to lose

Its so unfair! im already registered with Adecco, I have just got in contact and told them about my situation and they are going to look asap for me, im also looking myself obviously, the only saving grace is that i live with my parents and i have a bit of money to tied me over, but me and my partner are planning on moving in together in August so i need to find a job by then, ive been working non stop for the last 6 years and now im unemployed for the first time since i left education and its already getting me down!
Where do i stand for JSA for the time being? just until i find something? i know i left my job on my own accord but thats because i had another job lined up and now ive been shafted out of that so its not my fault.Disneyland Paris (Dream Castle) - January 2010

did the Coral woman explicitly offer you the job? Did you discuss term (pay etc?)
If so, I'd say that was a verbal contract. If she doesn't deny the conversation, I'd ask to speak to her superior.
It probably won't get you anywhere, but at least you can unload on her.
Doesn't matter that it wasn't her fault.
Make yourself feel better.:D0 -
well seeing as shes the regional manager i doubt i can go much higher, she offered me the job over the phone and i accepted and told her id be handing my notice in that day! thats when she said she'd be in contact within the next 2 weeks to discuss a starting date!Disneyland Paris (Dream Castle) - January 2010

Not sure about JSA, maybe not if you technically left your job, you can make a telephone claim by calling 0800 055 66 88, ask them, see what they say..?
Good job you have a little savings and parents, I'm guessing you are more angry than anything though.
Keep looking, get yourself a temp job if you can.

I would be livid, but tbh, I would have been asking her to put the details in writing to me BEFORE I resigned (but that is possibly because I am old fashioned:o). An offer over the phone and without anything confirmed in writing would feel a bit too insecure for me to be resigning:o
Would agree with those that say you need to go higher. I personally would be making a complaint to their Head Office about the incompetence or duplicity that you have been faced with."there are some persons in this World who, unable to give better proof of being wise, take a strange delight in showing what they think they have sagaciously read in mankind by uncharitable suspicions of them"(Herman Melville)0 -

there's always people higher than her. you need to contact them and report what she has done. it may not get you the job you were promised but it will make sure she gets the sack for gross incompetance. what she has done is unforgivable and any decent company will make sure she gets fired.Martin has asked me to tell you I'm about to cut the cheese, pull my finger.0 -
yeah i am more angry than anything else and i also want to work! its not as if i dont want to work!, I will be making a complaint to there head office, I didn't think of asking for anything in writing because every job ive had in the past has been offered over the phone! I guess i should learn from this now!Disneyland Paris (Dream Castle) - January 2010

you're perfectly in the right to be very angry, i would be too, the way you have been treated is extremely unprofessional. report her and make sure this b!tch gets what's coming to her.Martin has asked me to tell you I'm about to cut the cheese, pull my finger.0

You've got every right to be angry - I'd be devastated.
Defo make a complaint to head office.
Also, make a claim for JSA, if there's a doubt as to why you left your job, they'll send you a form to fill in which will then go to a decision maker, to decide if you had good enough reason to leave. Even if they sanction you, it's best to put the claim in now as it could take a while to find a new job & if you put the claim in later, the sanction would run from then (hope that makes sense!)
Good luck & I really feel for you.0
