Food for 4th birthday party - sound ok?

Hi - I am preparing for my daughter's party tomorrow and having a panic - do I have enough ~(types of) food? Here is the plan:

slices of malt loaf (in lieu of sandwiches)
carrot, cucumber sticks
melon and pineapple pieces
sausage rolls
home made jam tarts
home made biscuits
some crisps

and then birthday cake for the party bags. I also have choc and sweets to hand out during the party games etc. Do you think this is enough? I am dithering about whether to make jelly and ice-cream too - eek.

there's not nearly anything there that sounds like it has enough crazy food additives to make the kids go bonkers! ;)

Jelly and ice cream would take a lot of cleaning up from a 4yr olds party :) I think kids are more interested in the games and sweets that the food so I wouldnt go overboard and the selection sounds lovely

aaah but you haven't seen the icing in a tube I have got to daub all over the biscuits (will cancel out the wholesome home-made side):rotfl:

Most kids won't eat as much as you think at a party as they're too excited. Could try home made pizza?
Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx

March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.

i have held quite a few parties for my children in the past and have found that picky things are the way to go as the kids do not eat much really as so much going on and i used to get so much left over,it sounds like plenty enough to me good luck with the party

What about something for the children who do not like malt loaf? Pizza, sarnies, nachos & cheese?
  • thanks for all your comments. the children had a lovely time and devoured the sausage rolls, blueberries, jam tarts and biscuits!
