Repossessions: 5 million at risk

just because it happened to the Wilsons who ran a completely over-leveraged business model doesn't mean that it has happened to everybody.
Its not a coincidence that prices stopped falling in 2009 when rates hit .5%. The simple fact is there are a few who based their finances on always being able to mew or rollover cheap debt. When this stopped in late 2007 prices fell.
These same people will be still struggling I suspect if rates rise to 3%. It only takes a few to struggle for their to be trouble. The government are protecting up to 300K people with the SMI scheme when rates are this low. Says it all for me.0 -
Harry_Powell wrote: »To the 'Bears': Honestly guys, do you really believe the stuff you write, or is it just to pass the time and to wind up the 'bull' gang? Isn't it the case that because YOU may have no emergency savings, redundancy protection, or all of the other stuff I mentioned in my previous post, you think EVERYONE is in the same boat? If so, are your posts merely a reflection of your own fears and misgivings about your own precarious finances? This called 'projection' in psychology.
In classical psychology, projection is always seen as a defense mechanism that occurs when a person's own fears are repressed and then attributed to someone else.
An example of this behavior might be blaming another for self failure. The mind may avoid the discomfort of consciously admitting personal faults by keeping those feelings unconscious, and redirect their libidinal satisfaction by attaching, or "projecting," those same faults onto another.
Projection reduces anxiety by allowing the expression of the unwanted unconscious impulses or desires without letting the conscious mind recognize them.
In lay-mans terms, you 'bears' are projecting your own fear of failure (i.e. losing control of your finances to the point of complete financial breakdown - repossession, bankruptcy, etc.) onto society as a whole, lessening your own anxiety. In short, you are walking examples of the phrase 'misery loves company'. i.e. if you can make yourself believe that everyone has the same fears as you, you're not weak because everyone is in the same boat, indeed society as a whole is in the same boat as you.
Your rants remind me more and more of people like Bruce Banner and others on HPC who used to simply call everyone a troll who did not agree with them. I think you need to calm down and take some deep breaths and realise that the idea of an internet forum is to debate and people will often disagree on them0 -

Then instead of trying to insult me, why not debate with me? Are you saying that the 'bears' are not projecting their own fears onto others?
p.s. your use of the words "I think you need to calm down and take some deep breaths", is again an excellent example of projection. Clearly my impersonal psychological description of projection has elicited an emotional response in you of anxiety and hence shortened breath. your subconscience is telling you to calm down and take a deep breath, yet you reject this reaction as weakness and therefore your psyche seeks to project them elsewhere, in this case onto me. You're projecting your own negative emotions onto others. QED."I can hear you whisperin', children, so I know you're down there. I can feel myself gettin' awful mad. I'm out of patience, children. I'm coming to find you now." - Harry Powell, Night of the Hunter, 1955.0 -

No their not their simply debating and giving a different opinion to you.
There are clear signs around the world at the moment that things are not great. If everyone was positive then we would never had had the greek or Euro problem last week as everyone would have simply waited till Greece defaulted before worrying.
You could argue that if more people had listened to people of bearish nature like Vince Cable back in 2004 then maybe we would not be in the mess we are in.
You simply have to come to terms with the fact that there are those who disagree with you opinion Harry. You maybe proved right in years to come who knows.
Also throught my years I have bought and sold a number of properties bought into BTL gambled on shares. I also have a positive outlook on many things in life. I like I suspect many others do simply think the economy is in a mess and this is likely to effect the housing market over the next few years.0 -

Yes, that's why it is called a debate. If everyone agreed then it would simply be an accord. I'm giving a generalised opinion on the psychological makeup of 'bearish' members of this board. Do you disagree with my analysis? You simply have to come to terms with the fact that there are those who disagree with you opinion Harry. You maybe proved right in years to come who knows.
Again, you're projecting. You find it difficult to come to terms with people disagreeing with you, hence the passive-aggressive way you are responding right now. If anyone disagrees with my psychological profiling then I'm happy to debate it.

Er i think I have made it clear I don't. By the way if you have not noticed this a debate the economy and house prices forum not a psychology forum!0 -

We all have access to the same data on here, yet some people will see a positive or 'bullish' slant and others will see a negative or 'bearish' slant. This is all rooted in people's personal psychology, based primarily in their childhood experiences and development.
All opinions and predictions are based in psychology my friend. Those who realise this are the ones who will gain the most from the experience, hence the phrase "Know Thyself". By understanding what your personality traits are, you are then able to examine a scenario with a greater degree of detachment. The greater the degree of detachment you have, the more accurate your predictions will be. The more accurate they are, the greater you will profit by them."I can hear you whisperin', children, so I know you're down there. I can feel myself gettin' awful mad. I'm out of patience, children. I'm coming to find you now." - Harry Powell, Night of the Hunter, 1955.0 -

Nonsense. Peoples opinions are based on want they want. You have just bought therefore you read everything as bullish. I would like them to fall so I will read and pick out the bearish parts of the posts. I can admit that unfortunately you cant.
As some who has a £300 mortgage a very stable job and a wife who has a very stable job with lots of money in the bank I dont have to worry about all these negative things so claim bears all worry about.0 -

You're in denial if you don't think your personality has anything to do with the opinions you form or the decisions you make.
The fact you have to boast about your wealth on an internet forum, reveals an awful lot about your psychological makeup."I can hear you whisperin', children, so I know you're down there. I can feel myself gettin' awful mad. I'm out of patience, children. I'm coming to find you now." - Harry Powell, Night of the Hunter, 1955.0 -

BOE base rate of 0.5% has very little to do with house prices.
if mortgage rates had fallen in line with this i could agree with you.
prices stopped falling because house prices found their resistence/bottom level where people started to buy them again.
pre-Feb 2009 there was not enough effective demand.
post this date the effective demand increased and drove house prices.0
