advice please!
i'm in abit a stupid financial situation. i'm a student and i have used up all my £1400 overdraft. i have a job so at the start of next month i'll be getting about £400 in. however, the reason i have no money left is because i've paid £1000's to do an internship in america this summer; i made a budget at the start of the year to work out how i was going to finance it and i've been working lots at my part-time job but the reality is i need about £2000-£2500 still for the summer. as soon as i realised this i applied for a personal loan with natwest (who i have my student account with) and they accepted me initially, but then when it came to me sending evidence/signing papers, i rang up my local natwest to ask some questions and they said there must have been a mistake because they don't let students have loans. so i applied for a loan with santander but they turned me down.
so basically, what are my options?? i have an ok credit rating (no late payments, i'm on the electoral roll etc.) so is there any chance somewere might let me have a loan? i can't be that bad if natwest accepted me before realising i'm a student. i have 2 other accounts with barclays, is there any point trying to apply for a loan with them? or is it quite easy to get afew credit cards that i could just pay-back with my loan/grant in september? or would it be possible for me to get another student account with an overdraft? any advice/help would be much appreciated!!

go back a bit.
how are you planning to repay it?
if you can't give us a plan to do that, thenn you can't give the bank one, and they won't lend you any money.Debt free 4th April 2007.

oh yeah, sorry! well i'm going on a year abroad to Japan as part of my course from september so i'm planning to repay it from the higher loan/grants i get as well as the fact i'll be working in Japan and the wages are higher because of the exchange rate, so i should be earning about £500 a month with a part-time job, so i defiantely will have anough to pay back £100-150 a monthgo back a bit.

isn't Japan expensive to live in though?
I am sorry. It is all too theoretical for me to be comfortable lending to you (where me = bank), especially since I have no way to pursue you for the money when you are out of the country.
exchange rates fluctuate. you may not be able to get a job. you may get married in japan and never come home. etc etc etc.

yeah japan is expensive but my accomodation will be cheaper and i'm getting more grants than i do in england. i will definately be able to get a job, i've been to Japan before and was offered several jobs (waitressing, english teaching etc.) just because i'm foreign. my mum definately doesn't have the money to lend me and i would feel awful asking her to be a guarantor on a loan. so you think theres no way anyone's going to lend it to me? thanks for the advice by the wayisn't Japan expensive to live in though?

You may find that your family are able to help you, particularly if you are able to go to them with a repayment plan. I know that we would try every avenue to help our DD if/when she needed our help, simply because we would be so proud of the efforts she was making to build the basis of her future. Good luck.:)0
