Moving to Payplan - How easy?

My OH currently has a DMP with Baines and Ernst which has been running since before he got divorced. He has sold his house (25% shared ownership) and it has been agreed that the proceeds of the sale which are not a great deal are to be paid to B&E to go towards the marital debt. I contacted them yesterday with the general enquiry of how much in fees would they take and they said the lump should be paid direct to creditors and not them. They are aware of whats in the agreement although haven't bothered telling the solicitor of this. It is now going to take longer to complete the sale due to the.

I have been reading about Payplan on here and have said to him about changing to them. That was he could be free of 'her' (obviously it was all her fault - hmm!!! lol) before Xmas 2008 and would save him nearly £1600 in fees which would obviously be better off in our pockets than B&E.

Has anyone else out there changed DMP company? How easy is it to change to Payplan? I have asked him to give them a phone but he hates doing anything moneywise and I can't really do this one on his behalf.

Also, would he be able to remove her name from the DMP on moving to Payplan? I think most of the actual debts have been changed into his name but her name still appears on DMP......

  • I would be interested to know the answer to this question too, as I am trying to persuade someone to move their DMP from Gregory Pennington, who are charging them 15%

How about giving CCCS or Payplan a ring and asking them direct?!

    :)

  • They are lucky it is 15%! OH is paying 17.95% each month! B&E charge a max of £90 per month which is what he would pay if we upped his payments to the max we can afford. In the long run if he did move then it would save him loads (as above).

Try this its from payplan website.

    http://www.payplan.com/how-much-could-i-save.php
  • OMG!!!!!!!

It could save them at the very least £3500 in fees alone by switching (the reason I say the least is because they actually have no idea how much the actual debt adds up to...............I have been close to screaming when talking to them about this!!!)

  • I finished with B&E some 5 years or so ago. I wrote them a letter giving them 1 months notice & cancelled my standing order with my bank. I had no problem whatsoever from them in regard to this particular matter. You may already know that they will keep your first monthly payment as agreed in the contract that you signed with them, but this will be more than offset by the savings you will make by not having to pay their fees in future. There were a number of reasons why I ditched them & if you wish me to post them, just say. Once you've done this, then contact either CCCS, Payplan or CAB or if you feel up to it write to your creditors directly, ask for standing order forms & do it yourself. you can even offer a slightly higher monthly payment out of the savings you are making by not paying B&E their fees.

  • Donegoindebt - many thanks for your help there. I will try and talk him into it. Unfortunately he wasnt great with paperwork over the years and the only stuff we have is the stuff I have managed to hijack and file before he shreds it and he now only gets letters from two of his creditors. I will probably end up doing all of the leg work for him and try to find out all the details that payplan need! He will be receiving a lump sum just shortly (proceeds from sale of house he shared with the ex) which is to be paid into the debts so I suppose we will get most of the details from that anyway. I look forward to the date that we are rid of his debst and can start working on mine!!!
