Hi All
I am looking for some advice on Job seekers allowance.
I was on JSA until I got offered a job with an employment agency. I sent my book in to the jobcentre to confirm I am now working and would like to sign off.
I started my new job a week Monday just gone. I rang the jobcentre and they said they have got my book but I had to ring a number to cancel my claim. Ive tried and tried to ring it but cant get through. I work 7.30-5pm mon-fri and ive tried ringing in my breaks loads of time.
I will get my jsa allowance paid into my account next thurs but i shouldnt be getting it.
What can i do? I may get into a lot of trouble but i do want to cancel the claim.
Thanks
Paul

If you don't attend a signing day, you WON'T get your JSA and your claim will be closed.
However you may not get any monies (if any) owed to you up until the day you started work.
..and Jobcentreplus offices are open until 6pm weekdays, and 1pm saturdays > http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/dl1/directories/dg_100110180 -
Not ALL JCP offices are open on Saturdays hence the OP stating this previously. When I started work, I was told to hand it in person and did so after making some arrangements with my manager (left work slightly earlier to make it at 4.55pm on that day to hand in my book). This is after calling the so-called claim closure line which is not true really as you cannot cancel your claim by phone (so said the lady on the phone).0

I don't understand why you have to ring a number. When I closed my claim earlier this week, I just dropped off my job book, confirmed I'd get my final payment plus my "back to work bonus" and left again. I fail to see why that's different than posting it in or whatever.
(Not that I'm questioning what you've been told btw! Just curious why it's different at different jobcentres.)0
